Are these add on cars compatable with the El Capitan Set Lionel released back in 2006-07. I am not a purist but by the time i discovered the El Capitan
the add on baggage and Vista Dome were unavailable and sold out. I was
lucky to find the last El Capitan set. Ironically at my local hobby store.

The color scheme is a little different on these cars – we’ve added some more red and yellow on the letterboards – so the paint schemes won’t be an exact match. Operationally however, you’ll have no trouble using the cars together.

While on the subject I have noticed when my son runs the FT Diesel El Capitan it heats up quite a bit to the point where it is hot!!! So I tell him not to run it very long. It only runs about 10 or 15 minutes before he goes to bed at
night. Also the the sound system is “cracling” sounds like “radio interference”.

Please advise. Also we have been running it since Feb/March of 2012 just to give you a time line about its use.It gets run about 3-4 nights a week as I mentioned above 10 to 15 minutes max

Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have the El Capitan and was unable to buy the vista dome car. Super Chief had two horizontal red stripes, El Capitan one. That’s a problem. My sound system crackles, too, and I turn it off; also, it’s bell keeps ringing, which get’s annoying. I actually prefer the toy train sound of the loco and cars.

Considering getting another set: either the Super Chief or new KC Southern.
