New Product Spotlight – Chattanooga Express Set

15 04 2013

This new set is sure to have you humming a familiar tune! This great passenger train pays homage to that Big Band classic, Chattanooga Choo Choo.

6-30228 The Chattanooga Express will be music to your ears.

The famous song was written by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon while traveling south by train aboard the Birmingham Special on the Southern. Although the route described in the song is similar to that of the Southern’s famous Crescent, it was not written specifically about that, or any train. It does however capture the mystique that rail travel still garnered in its greatest era.

remoteGlenn Miller’s first recording of the song in 1941 became the first certified gold with 1,200,000 copies sold by 1942. The song endures today, having been covered by everyone from Cab Calloway to members of KISS.

Our new set features an 0-8-0 locomotive, No. 29 of course, and three lighted passenger cars. And with our new LionChief Remote control, you can keep running your train even if you get the urge to get up and dance.

The locomotive features:

  • RailSounds RC with steam chuff in sync with the train’s speed, and a whistle, bell and announcements controlled by the remote

  • Puffing Smoke unit
  • Working Headlight
  • Maintenance Free Motor
  • Operating Coupler on tender
  • On/Off Switches for Smoke and Sound

observationThe three lighted cars include a combine, coach and observation. Each is named for a notable place in the song and features die-cast metal trucks, interior lighting and silhouettes in the windows.

The set also comes with a 40 x 60 inch oval of FasTrack, plug-in wall pack and the LionChief Remote. All of this for the retail price of $249.99 should have you tapping your feet to the rhythm of the rails! Shovel all the coal in and keep her rollin’ down to your dealer to place your order.

Can the LionChief remote system be connected to a layout that has regular 0-27 track (not fastrack)?

Yes. As long as you can set the voltage to 18 Volts on the rails using the power supply with your layout, the type of track does not matter. If you want to use the wall pack that comes with the LionChief sets, you’d need to use the tubular – FasTrack transition pieces. But this power supply can be replaced by any conventional transformer, TMCC or LEGACY, so no special track is required.
