This season marks the introduction of several new Christmas items in our American Flyer S Gauge line. These trains will be perfect for starting or expanding your collection and Christmas displays.

Dockside Steam Locomotive

Whether it is busy shifting cars at the North Pole workshops or endlessly coming ’round the tree, this 0-6-0 Dockside switcher will look great hauling your Christmas cars. The locomotive features transformer-controlled forward-neutral-reverse operation, directional headlight and backup light, puffing smoke, operating front and rear couplers, powerful maintenance-free motor and traction tires.

The colorful tank engine retails for $94.99 and, like all of the cars shown here, will negotiate an S-36 minimum curve.

For the first time in S Gauge, the classic “mint car” comes to the Christmas line. Santa’s checking his list to see who will receive the coal and who gets the presents seen inside the car’s big windows.

The car features a metal frame and die-cast trucks with operating couplers. The car retails for $59.99.

Naughty / Nice Covered Gondola

Continuing the naughty and nice theme, this covered gondola has compartments for the good and mischievous as well. The two “coil covers” are removable so you can load it with whatever you’d like.

Filled with sugar for “Mrs Claus Sugar Plums and Confections” and decorated for the season this car combines the whimsy of the holidays with the detail and features of our 1:64 scale freight cars.

The covered hopper features die-cast trucks with scale wheels and operating couplers. For those who use other couplers, the truck-mounted couplers are designed for easy removal and mounting locations for scale couplers are provided on the car. The car also features many separately applied metal detail parts including the see-through tread walkways around the top.

Each weathered model will be hand-weathered by artist Harry Heike – a beautiful and personal touch to make your models unique. The extra touch of weathering really brings out the details on the models.

Preproduction samples of all 10 shells for the Heritage SD70ACE and three of the ES44AC O Gauge locomotives were on display as well as many of the American Flyer versions as well.

The American Flyer Mint Car looks like a million bucks!

In addition to the new Heritage locomotives, there were several other American Flyer cars shown was well, including the new mint car.


Samples of many of our LionChief Remote sets ran the days away on our display towers. There were plenty of other traditional locomotives, sets and cars to see as well.

New Product Spotlight – American Flyer Norfolk Southern Heritage ES44ACs

We introduced our American Flyer replicas of Norfolk Southern’s now famous Heritage Series of locomotives in 2012. This year we are completing the run with the remainder of the twenty locomotive fleet including a new-to-S Gauge ES44AC!


6-42531 – Reading SD70ACE

Shortly after their introduction, these locomotives were turned loose on Norfolk Southern to perform daily chores just like the rest of the roster. They can show up almost anywhere at any time on any train. Several have even made it well off of Norfolk Southern’s rails, being seen as far away as Washington and California. Despite their “regular roles” the locomotives are still required to be washed monthly and crews will often take the extra time to make sure they are in the lead on a consist whenever possible.

Whether you are a fan of modern era railroading or just like seeing a favorite fallen flag back again, these locomotives have something for everybody. And our American Flyer models are designed to please as well.

New Product Spotlight – American Flyer Defender Set

American Flyer fans have been waiting for this set to arrive for awhile and now it is finally on its way. The Defender Set is filled with many of the classic American Flyer action cars that bring the train to life.

American Flyer first produced the Defender Set in 1959. With its rocket, searchlight, operating boxcar and more, the action-packed set targeted young minds at the dawn of the space age. The set also marked the 50th Anniversary of American Flyer trains.

The new set captures the spirit and details of the original 1959 set quite well. Whether you grew up with the original and want to recapture your youth or you’re ready to start the adventure for the first time, this set is sure to please.

Pulled by a C&O GP-7, the locomotive includes:


The GP-7 is decorated for the C&O and features an electronic ringing bell.
